Dollarbird
Pieman Heads
A photographer from Hobart, Ian Robertson, has passed on this report and photograph of a juvenile Dollarbird at the Pieman Heads. His report is as follows:
"The image was taken about a one minute walk from the jetty, where the Arcadia 2 stops at the jetty when taking tourists to the mouth of the Pieman River, at around 12.55pm on 9th April 2013. It landed on a dead tree next to a shack. I took 4 images and the one attached is the best of them".
This would appear to be only the fourth or fifth record of the species for the state and particularly interesting, since it's clearly a juvenile bird, indicating possible breeding.
