I have not followed this discussion as closely as I should, so perhaps I
have misunderstood, but aren't there two separate issues:
1. In Vic, legislation has changed to prevent access to reserves in the
morining throughout the (duck) hunting season.
2. In NSW proposal is to allow shooting of feral animals (goats, foxes,
etc) by members of the public in some parks where otherwise pest control
would be carried out by the parks authorities themselves.
There are, as has been discussed at length, major flaws in both ideas,
and the decisions were clearly strongly influenced by the hunting lobby,
but I don't recall any suggestion that there would be a relaxation of
what can and cannot legally be shot, just by whom.
Cheers, Ian

Dear Birding-aussers,
Somewhere in the past couple of months during the discussion on shooting in
national park and nature reserves in NSW, someone provided a list of
Australian bird species that supposedly were going to be allowed to be shot
(I won't dignify the pastime by using the word hunted). Apart from the usual
duck and quail species I am sure these birds included both species of the
larger ibis, black swans, and various pigeons. I would be most grateful if
someone could direct me to this list and especially to whatever was the
source. I am engaged in a computer "ping pong" match with a NSW government
department who obviously has no idea as to what is being talked about when
it comes to hunting in NSW.
Many thanks,
Mark
