Birdline South Australia

Published sightings for the week ending 27 Jan 2013.

Mon 21 Jan Bassian Thrush Mt Lofty
Great to finally see a Bassian Thrush here again after 4 years of absence. Even managed some half-decent photos!

Sun 20 Jan Chestnut-rumped Heathwren Cox Scrub Conservation Park
An eventful morning at Cox produced three Chestnut-rumped Heathwrens that were seen well as they openly foraged in rank growth alongside the trail leading south from the car park. Been visiting this park for a while now to try and obtain a photograph and this time my luck was in!

Spotless Crake, Australian Spotted Crake. Latham`s Snipe Barrage Road Goolwa
An adult Spotless Crake was observed briefly in the open as it ventured out onto exposed mud in front of the Bird Hide. It was chased off by two noisy Australian Spotted Crakes that came out and foraged for a few moments. A Latham`s Snipe was present on the opposite grassy bank from the hide viewing area.

Thu 17 Jan Western Whipbird, Mallee Fowl, Southern Scrub-Robin Royston Head Track, Innes National Park
At least three Western Whipbirds calling just after dawn along the Royston Head Track. Got within approx 5m of one calling from thick vegetation but frustratingly couldn't get a glimpse before it stopped calling and disappeared. A Mallee Fowl on the road on the way in and several Southern Scrub-Robins along the walk.
