I was at the Destination Q forum, with the premier and various ministers
discussing what was needed to boost the tourism industry.
I spent most of my time in the ecotourism workshop, as did the premier
Hunting and shooting was not discussed in the sessions I was in, but when I
returned after attending another session towards the end of the day, hunting
and fishing in national parks was up there on the board - no mention of whether
it was just ferals, or what kinds of restriction or regulation, and no time
left for discussion.
We need to ask a lot of questions.
I had said earlier in the day that while I agreed with simplifying some of the
red tape, we need to have more research on where various activities could and
couldn't be sustainably added to various parks, and to provide baselines for
on-going monitoring of effects, but the premier later said we need to just
start doing these things and then see if they're sustainable: I don't see this
as a good way of finding out the effects on our more cryptic species
