Little Eagle, Wedge-tailed Eagle
Royal National Park (Wattle Flat)
I spotted this Little Eagle gliding South over Wattle Flat near Audley this afternoon. It started to circle and soar higher when a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles flew in from the East and did the same beneath it. I have seen Wedge-tailed Eagles flying over Wattle Flat and other parts of the park before but the Little Eagle is a new raptor tick for me at Royal NP. Excuse the poor photo.

Little Shearwater
Sydney Pelagic
The avian highlight of today's Sydney pelagic trip was a well seen Little Shearwater, the first sighting from the Halicat in more than two years.(It will require a submission to NSW ORAC)
Cetacean highlights were more noteworthy with a Southern Right Whale showing well at the heads on our departure, a group of False Killer Whales briefly seen, and a very cooperative Dwarf Minke Whale which circled the boat at close quarters for several minutes. A Shortfin Mako feeding on our berley at close range was also a highlight for those on board.

Square-tailed Kite
King Creek, Wauchope
A Square-tailed Kite flew low into the garden this morning and casually glided around for a few minutes before suddenly dropping into a large callistemon A Crested Pigeon rocketed out of the bush and after a few minutes, the kite took off pursued by all the local Noisy Miners. When I checked the bush I could see a Crested Pigeon "nest" but with no activity nor contents.

Pilotbird, Spotted Quail-thrash, Gang Gang Cockatoo, Rose Robin, Scarlet Robin
Bungonia State Conservation Area, NSW
Some superb birding in Bungonia SCA. Very cold but beautiful day. Lyrebirds were calling from every corner of the park. I observed one bird for nearly 15 minutes. Its call started as car alarm fowowed vy satin bowebird call, kookaburra chorus, again the car alarm, alarm clock and finished with brown thorbill/ white-browed scrubwren chorus. Thornbills and scrubwren were perching on the branches and attacking the lyrebird. Interesting birds seen in the park: one Pilotbird (Molly O'Neil track), two Gang Gang Cockatoo (Orange track), Spotted Quail-thrush ( 2 pairs -Adams Lookout), one Rose Robin (Adams Lokout), Scarlet Robin (males were sitting on every table in the caming grounds). Some of gum trees are still flowering so there were large flocks of honeyeates (mostly White-napeted H, E. Spinebill and small flock of Brown-headed Honeyeaters).

Pink-eared Duck (up to 1000)
Hooey Lookout, Fivebough Swamp, Leeton
Huge flock of Pink-eared Ducks have taken up residence at the northern end of Fivebough for the past 3 weeks and seems to be growing in size. Spactacle of so many busily feeding in front of the lookout and even more spectacular when they suddenly take off en masse and fly like a huge flock of budgies before settling back onto the water - quite a sight.
