Eurasian Hoopoe
Roebuck Roadhouse , Western Australia
The Eurasian Hoopoe was still present yesterday at the Roebuck Roadhouse (16/12/11). Its looking great at the moment having nearly completed its moult. When it was first found it was halfway through moulting its neck and wing coverts. The bird has now progressed through its crest and is now looking pretty smart with its tail now nearly complete.
Here are some images I took yesterday of the bird. They are the first 2 images in the gallery with the other photos taken a few weeks earlier.
This will be my last update on the bird for a few weeks as I will be away but I think most keen birders who have wanted to see this guy have now ticked him off.

Japanese Sparrowhawk and Green-winged Teal
West Island, Cocos-Keeling Islands
Final update from Cocos Island. Japanese Sparrowhawk photographed circling our accommodation on Sat 10 Dec and Eurasian Teal (Green-winged Teal) photographed on the wetlands on West Island on the 9 Dec 2011.
Descriptions from local residents of a possible second Mugamaki Flycatcher present on West Island.
Over the next week I'll put together a trip report and post to birding-aus when I arrive home late Dec. (Moderator: - Green-winged Teal (Anas Crecca) as per Clements and Eurasian Teal as recognised by the IOC and others)

Inland Dotterel
Thomsons Lake , Western Australia
I saw an Inland Dotterel at Thomsons Lake this morning at 0800hrs. I was there looking at ‘crake heaven’ in the South West corner and this bird was a bit further west between the reeds and the water, directly down from the track from the car park. Also Australian Spotted Crake and Baillon’s Crake were present.
