A single male non breeding brown songlark was observed beside the Weipa airstrip yesterday. Due to the plumage pattern and general range of the species, I was very unsure of its identity and had to rush home and find cameras etc. Some poor photos were taken (in diminishing light with thunderstorms looming), but Mike Carter has confirmed the id - Thanks Mike! The bird was still there this morning and airport security actually drove us to within a few metres of the bird to obtain excellent photos! I was hoping for some rare vagrant, but BS is still a rare bird for here. =============================== To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: http://birding-aus.org =============================== |
