Buff-banded Rail
American River, Kangaroo Island
The occurance of Buff-banded Rails on Kangaroo Island is a rare event. There have been confirmed reports at Penneshaw this year but at 8.15pm on Thursday the 8th we were delighted to observe a single bird near the CFS Station on the American River foreshore. It was fossicking around under a small casuarina but scurried off into the thick sedge near the waters edge when spooked.
