Hm ! Chris, I was thinking Sanderling too, see Hayman, Marchant , and
Prater, (1986)Shorebirds,  p185, bird 189e, and better still O'Brien,
Crossley, and Karlson (2006) The Shorebird Guide, p139 for birds very like
your images.
