Hi Birders.

Brown Quail are resident in the Red Centre, albeit in small numbers in dry
years. They have been recorded every year in the annual 24hr Twitchathon which
has been held in dry years as well as wet. I find the best places to look for
them in dry times are in rank grasses in and around coolibah swamps. Stubble
Quail seem to be another story, only appearing after significant rains and
departing as soon as the good times are over.
Incidentally, this year's Red Centre 24hr Twitchathon will be held on Friday
the 7th to Saturday 8th October. There will be information on how to take part
on the Alice Springs Desert Park website very soon...
