Hi Folks,
Mt Lewis (2hrs NW of Cairns) has been turning up good birds over the
last few days with 3 adult male Golden Bowerbird and two females in a
fruiting fig-tree. We have posted some images of birds found this week
on Mt. Lewis onto our weekly blog, they are an immature male Chowchilla,
Crimson Rosella race /nigrescens /and//Grey Fantail race /Keasti/ onto
our blog. We also have an image of a rufous morph Tawny Frogmouth race
/phalaenoides/ which spent a day roosting on one of our neighbours Hills
Hoist (washing line), spinning around and ignoring flapping sheets! This
rufous morph is only known from the female of this race (info HANZAB).
Over 100 Double-eyed Fig-Parrot were counted in a fig tree in Julatten,
which had unripe green fruit on it, they must be very hungry to attempt
to eat these bullet like fruit. Also on a nearby lagoon also in Julatten
have been a pair of Cotton Pygmy-goose, a species which has declined in
numbers and sightings in our region over the last few years.
Cheers,
Keith & Lindsay.
