Birdline ACT

Published sightings for the week ending 15 May 2011.

Sun 15 May Pink Robin Bull's Head Cell, Namadgi National Park
Pink Robin (2) Tan wing bars, no white in tail. First bird seen mid morning on Mt Franklin Road 3.3 kms south of Bull's Head and the other approx 1 km north of Bull' Head mid afternoon. Both birds observed for 10-15 minutes as they foraged on the gravel road and in leaf litter on the roadside. When flushed by a passing car the second bird flew up into a sapling by the road side before returning to the road.

Sat 14 May Blue-billed Duck Fyshwick Sewage Ponds
One male. This is my first record of this normally moreorless resident species at the sewage ponds since 11 September 2010. Numbers of wildfowl and other waterbirds generally at the sewage ponds have been well down for many months. Also 4 Hoary-headed Grebes today - another species that has been largely absent for some months.
Frank Antram

Fri 13 May Grey Currawong ANBG
Grey Currawong observed foraging in the leaf litter next to the vistors centre

Pink Robin ANBG
After yesterday's report of a Pink Robin, I found the bird just before 10am in the upper parts of the rainforest gully. It was quietly foraging and preening in a dense shrub giving prolonged views from quite close.
