Alternatively, it didn't come in with the cyclone which approached from the
exact opposite direction this bird would have taken to get to Cairns.
I suspect that it is a coincidence.

Woohoo, possibly the first photographed rarity from Cyclone Yasi.
Wikipedia says it migrates from Siberia to SE Asia / Indonesia. It
must have been seriously out of the way to start with to be picked up
by a system motoring in from Fiji.
