Princess Parrots
west of the Merreni Loop Rd, Kings Canyon, Northern Territory
On this day Richard Brittingham of the Central Land Council and three trdaitionl owners of the Haarst Bluff Land Trust in a joint eco-tourist venture,led a group of 5 birders to a site where Princess Parrots have been breeding. In was a bit inasuspicious to start with as it rained and the birds were nowhere to be seen but eventually the storm passed and we had good views of between 20-25 Princess Parrots. A number of birds appeared to be juveniles and one adult bird had a bent tail which could indicate that it had been in a nest. The area had many large eucalypys with plenty of hollows. While most of the birds were seen in the one site we did see Princess Parrots in an area of over 10 kms. Other good birds seen at the site were Black and Grey-fronted Honeyeaters, Red-backed Kingfishers, Little Button- Quail and many Budgerigars. The site is not accessible to the public without the consent of the Traditional Owners.

Salvin's Albatross
South Stradbroke Island eastern beach, Queensland
Live beach-washed individual, identfied as sub-adult. Currently recuperating at Sea World. Submission to be made to BARC.
Ed. (R. Morris) On speaking to Paul Walbridge this evening I believe this may be a first record of 'salvini' for Queensland.

Australian Painted Snipe
Wanganella Swamp, Deniliquin district, New South Wales
A pair of Australian Painted Snipe was present today at the Wanganella Swamp. Also, the Brolga pair that was trumpeting on 20 October has two two-week old babies.

Princess Parrot Update
West of the Mereenie Loop Road, Northern Territory
Traditional owners are conducting day trip tours of the princess parrot site west of the Mereenie Loop Road this week and next. Parks and Wildlife Service staff are currently at the nesting site (they are there this morning) and report that the princess parrots are still present. Australian Painted Snipe
Alice Springs Sewage Ponds, Northern Territory
2 birds seen feeding together in EP7b at 5.45pm. One bird flushed into vegetation, while the other allowed very close views before moving across to EP7c to feed in the open. 2nd bird was male, 1st bird also appeared to be a male or a juvenile.

For the last 3 weeks or so there's been a Common Koel making his presence felt round Reynella SA (southern Adelaide suburb) by his very distinctive call.

Red-billed Tropicbird
Kim's Lookout, Lord Howe Island, New South Wales
Bird seen yesterday late morning. Other birds: Red-tailed Tropicbird. Kermadec, Black-winged & Providence petrel, White-bellied Storm-Petrel, White Tern, Grey Ternlet and all the regular LHI birds including all endemic ssp. and that big endemic thing that walks around clucking.

Australian Painted Snipe
2 Tree Swamp and Ganers Swamp Corop, Victoria
Pair in shallow water amongst the Banded Stilts nests with several
Jack Snipe (Latham's) 1 single cock seen several times in the swampy area where water is leaking from Ganers Swamp into Lake Cooper. Again amongst Stilts nests and Jack Snipe.

An extemely windy day at the WTP produced Lewin's Rail at the Spit, Black Falcon at Paradise Rd, & large numbers of Fluttering Shearwater at sea.
