Subject: KBs vs Galahs
Tony,
I would leave them to sort it out between themselves, as they would in
the bush. That is unless you need the guano for your garden, which
means that you would have to issue the lease to the greater guano
generating group. Rather like the recent elections I suppose.

Some of you may remember my annual reports of Laughing Kookaburras
nesting
in a hole in the big Palm tree in our back garden. They've successfully
produced a couple of young in each of the last four or five years.
In the last few days a pair of Galahs have been eyeing off the nest
hole,
going in and out checking things out ( beds, running water, etc). This
morning the Kookies arrived back for the season, potentially raising a
storm
over rights to the site.
Pam and I have been discussing which pair should be issued the nesting
lease
for this year, or do we have a say in the matter anyway? Both species
produce a lot of noise and heaps of guano so we are at a loss how to
decide. Comments and suggestions would be most welcome from any birders
experienced in avian nesting leases for these species.
Thank you, Tony and Pam.
