I bought some Pentax DCF ED 8x43 that I like although they can be near the 
$1000 limit. I bought mine in Sydney at Bintel and at the time they were very 
competitive with US online and there was instant gratification. I suspect the 
AUD will probably continue to fall while there is uncertainty in the government 
so local prices, especially if bought with the dollar high, will be become more 
attractive I guess.
