Bob Moffat is the person doing the banding work on Pied Oystercatchers in
northern NSW, with Greg Clancy also involved I think. I have forwarded to
Bob the news about the banded bird seen at Manly in Qld. Bob already knows
about the banded bird (H7) in the Newcastle area that was reported on
birding-aus yesterday - it and a second banded bird have been around for
several months now (and we have also had two of Bob's birds turn up in Port
Stephens and another one at Harrington).

Colin,
"Queensland Wader", the newsletter of the QWSG, regularly reports
each issue on leg flagged and banded shorebirds. The Pied Oystercatcher you
saw is not from the NW of WA, but was flagged in NSW. It's part of a project

tracking movements of PO's from Victoria & NSW (Victorian flagged birds also

have yellow leg flags and numbers, but on the right tibia). I can't recall
who are the originators or managers of this project.
PO's thus flagged have been regularly seen & reported from SEQ wader
sites over the past couple of years.
QWSG requests that all leg flagged sightings in Qld (incl. these
PO's) be reported to QWSG's Phil Cross .
