Hi Mike and Martin,

On Thursday 4th March I was on a school camp in Noble St, ??Anglesea, Victoria.
It had been quite hot up to 30-35 C in the early afternoon followed by
increasing cloud and a declining temperature - a weak cool change with no rain.
At 4.30 pm I noticed White-throated Needletails above the camp site. By 4.45
there were about 50 -100 birds in a loose flock at treetop height directly
above the camp site. In retrospect the bird numbers must have been higher as I
was concentrating on the nearest immediately visable birds - I would expect up
to 150 birds as a minimum. The birds were close enough to hear wing flapping at
times and the white underbody markings were obvious . ??After about half an
hour they moved off ??but smaller numbers of birds remained visible at varying
heights right up until dark at about 8.30pm.

regards
Jim Caine
