Good Morning Everyone
Last week I did a "on the fly"
trip to Lake Tyrell, Gluepot, Price, Goolwa and Gamma which are known
birding spots in both Vic and SA hoping to increase my number of birds
photographed, which I have done by 3 more species being Rufous Fieldwren,
Slender-billed Thornbill and Lewin's Rail. My thanks go to Ian May and his
wife Pat who allowed me to stay with them in Price for a few days and Ian
took me out each day to photograph many of the local birds in his area
including the Oriental Plovers one of which was in breeding plumage and I
thank them very much for their hospitality and friendship. Also to Kay
Parkin who tried so hard to find me a Red-lored Whistler at Gluepot but alas
it was not to be and then Kay, Ed and Rowley had to leave as thunderstorms
came over Gluepot and I headed out of there later that evening as it does
not have the name Gluepot for nothing! Lastly I would like to thank Michael
Wood, John Turner and Winston Syson all who are members of Birdpedia for
putting me on to the Lewin's Rail at Goolwa. Big miss for me was not getting
Pied Honeyeater at Gamma a tiny town near Sea Lake Vic as I was about half
an hour to late and even though I saw the bird the wind picked up and all
the birds disappeared but that's Birding for you. Highlight for me was at
last my 800mm Lens which I dropped of my tripod 18 months ago and then went
thru a saga with Canon and finally had it fixed by Camera Clinic in
Melbourne which allowed me to get some great shots of the Lewin's Rail
without making them nervous. I am off to Norfolk Island with my long
suffering wife for a week tomorrow and yes I will be taking my camera so
please watch this space to see if I am still married when I return. Here is
