David,
Toorbul is the best one for you to visit, because of proximity to
parking and availability of birds on almost every high tide. Kakadu
Beach on Bribie Island isn't as good for closeness to birds. Then,
heading north, there is a roost at Donnybrook, but you need to know
where you are going through the bush, and it doesn't always have birds.
Depends on the height of the tide.
Going north further, at Caloundra you have to get in a boat, same at
Maroochydore unless the birds happen to roost on the northern sandspit.
As we approach new moon that's possible.
I was out on the water at Caloundra yesterday and there are plenty of
migratory terns around at present. We had Littles, Commons, and one
sole White-wing. Apparently on Sunday evening about 10,000 came in to
roost for the night.
Then at Noosa you also have to get in a boat to access roosts.
Toorbul is definitely your best bet.
Cheers,
Jill

I was considering heading out tomorrow morning to coincide with high tide - I normally head for Toorbul, but wondered if there are any other worthwhile sites further north on the Sunshine Coast ( ie Caloundra etc) where I might see or photograph migratory shorebirds, terns etc - any feedback/directions appreciated
cheers
