I am sure someone else will respond with a better explanation. Yes, that
area has been a construction area for a while, but the usual access will
apparently be returned in a month or so. During construction activities
people have had to do an induction to enter that area.

Subject: Ash Island construction works?
Hi All,
On a recent trip (my first) to Ash Island we were halted near the old
radar station by construction works which prevent road access past this
point. Although Ramsar Road is passable beyond this point (there are
some deep soft sections where rocks have been used to fill the track) we
were stopped by a construction worker who insisted that the track was
closed to public access, and told to turn around and head back. There
are no signs when entering Kooragang Nature Reserve to indicate that the
road is closed.
Does anyone know if these construction works are likely to keep the road
closed for much longer? Otherwise it looks like the only way to access
the eastern part of the reserve would be to walk in along one of the
tracks.
Cheers,
Carl Corden
