Thanks for this posting Tim.
Could I ask that any sightings of Regent Honeyeaters be reported to the
recovery officer Dean Ingwersen as soon as possible:
(m) 0409 348 553
Or
1800 621 056
The sooner he gets info on sightings, the better the chances of him being able
to follow them up. Among other things, this will increase our knowledge of
feeding ecology and fine scale habitat preferences.
Thanks,

Subject: Regent Honeyeater near Paynesville, Gippsland.
Hi all,
This report just came in via Victorian Birdline (see below and
http://www.eremaea.com ), a Regent Honeyeater near Paynesville, Gippsland. It
would be interesting to see if there are any follow ups. Regent Honeyeaters
were historically quite commonly reported from Gippsland - with a band of
box-ironbark extending across south east Victoria - but I can find no recent
records.
Regent Honeyeater, 15/12/2009
Eagles Point, Rivermouth Road, near the silt jetties, Paynesville, Gippsland
Notes: The bird flew in front of the car and landed in a tree alongside the
road, in front of #190 Rivermouth Rd. It then crossed back and perched on the
fence of the property, dropping to the ground a couple of times to feed on
insects, etc. Amazing!
Observer: Laura Stenzler and Ton Schat
Cheers,
Tim Dolby
