Thanks Mike, It is always good to know exactly what we are dealing with and we couldn't be more sure after reading your brilliant description of the distinguishing features. I just checked and the bird is doing well, eating heaps and looking fitter. If I had have known that it was Michael Norris and co who rescued and identified the bird in the first place and took it to the vet I would not have been so desperate for confirmation although I now feel I will be more confident in identifying an Arctic Jaeger myself.
