Hi Tom, You ask: "Where did you find reference to buttonquails being 'Shorebirds'?" It's quite simple.The family "Turnicidae" which contains the button-quail is now included in the order "Charadriiformes". Ergo, button-quail are 'shorebirds.......as are skuas, jaegers, noddies, terns and gulls. Using the same novel way of thinking all Passeriformes can be called 'crows'.
