Gunnar Engblom will know more about this but:

"In September 1986 experienced tropical birders, the late Ted Parker and Scott 
Robinson recorded 331 species in 24 hours at Coca Cashu in Manu National Park.

This record was beaten shortly afterwards in Novemebr 1986 by a team led by 
Terry Stevenson in Kenya, which notched up 342 species with the use of a small 
aeroplane
