We have just arrived back at Finke (southeast of Alice Springs) for a few weeks and I am checking sewage ponds daily. Amazed to see a Greater Sand Plover (along with a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper) walking forlornly around the edge of the 'concrete swimming pools' that make up the sewage ponds here. Was able to photograph it. Can't have been many Greater Sand Plovers reported from the Geographic Centre of Australia which is just a few km away from here.
