I understand that the Cape York Peninsula and the New Guinea mainland were
connected as recently as 10,000 years ago. Tasmania was last connected to
the Australian mainland about 13,000 years ago. Therefore, if Tasmanian
species are included in the Australian bird list, then perhaps so should PNG
species, from a geological and evolutionary perspective.

No. Tasmania was (land) connected to mainland Australia relatively
recently - Geologically and Evolutionally.
Hawaii was never physically attached to America.
