When I was the resident NPWS Ranger at Dharug National Park at Wisemans
Ferry, NW of Sydney, NSW I heard the calls of the Lewin's Rail almost daily.
The 'kek-kek-kek' call was the most common contact call but when I
approached the birds they would make a deep 'booaar' or 'ooaar' sound. I
also heard the galloping call from time to time. Very secretive birds. I
only glimpsed them a few times in my 2.5 years at the site.
