Last February 2009 I had the great fortune of spending several hours with
flocks of Superb parrots in the wheatfields of rural NSW. I filmed them at
close distance at a sheep trough and also watched them foraging in harvested
wheat fields. There were quite good numbers of adult males but everywhere
the constant begging cries of fledged young of the year. It seemed to me
that the young of the year vastly outnumbered the adults. Based on
Foreshaw's description I tried to sort through my video footage to identify
any females in the group. It appeared to me that all of the dull colored
birds were immature Superbs. Occasionally the adult males broke down and
fed the constantly pestering/begging young although mostly they simply
ignored them. I saw nothing that I would describe with confidence as an
adult female. Can anyone offer some suggestions?

Thanks for any help on this one!
Cheers!
