> PS Has anyone been able to point at legislation making it illegal to use
binoculars anywhere in Australia?
>From experience, the use of binoculars (or cameras) are generally not
allowed near Australian defence facilities, unless you have been given a
permit/pass from the Australian Defence Department. I remember conducting
some seabird surveys on beaches and rock platforms on Garden Island (in WA)
some years ago and before too long I had a convoy of naval personnel heading
in my direction. I had permission to conduct bird surveys on the island, but
I forgot to mention that I'd be using optical aids, which apparently caused
a problem!!!
I'm not sure what legislation was triggered by this incident, but it
presumably it had something to do with national security.
