Hi Arwen,
Try the Mudgee tourism site at http://www.visitmudgeeregion.com.au/j/index.php
It has a pretty comprehensive accommodation listing. A call to the
Mudgee visitor centre might be useful, and they should be able to
suggest good little walk locations.
There is quite good birding along most of the little back roads around
Mudgee, just pull up and have a wander. Up around Hargreaves and
Wyndeyer and Pyramul are quite good for this.
There is a nice park in Short St (runs off the Ulan RD, by the Lawson
Park Hotel) by the river, with a good play area for the kids and often
a nice bit of birding, the other bank of the river is all scrubby
growth. Good spot for a picnic.
Also, I don't want to jinx you, but a call to Mudgee Hospital might be
wise, to check if they do have a full time obstetrics unit. There
might be a certain cachet to giving birth in an ambulance (all the
rage in the Blue Mountains) or Medivac chopper, but I don't think most
Mums are that keen.
Cheers,
Carl Clifford

Hi all,
I'm sorry to be asking this here but I've already spent some time
trying to find suitable accommodation in Mudgee region and wondered if
anyone can help -
We need somewhere reasonably priced where we don't need to go hiking
for birds (I'll be 7 months pregnant) and that is suitable for
children, pref self-contained, not too far from hospital just in case :)
Most of the places I've found seem to be surrounded by vineyards
(oddly enough) so I'm looking for somewhere that has a bit of bush as
well.
Also, if anyone can suggest easy walks (pref for young child to take a
bike) where there are nice birds in the area?
Cheers,
Arwen
