Fortunately lead shot is banned in Victoria.
It is estimated that there is in excess of 350 tonnes of lead shot still
present in the wetlands in the various State Game Reserves in Victoria.
There is no doubt that this shot is ongoingly entering the food chain, and
will do so for the next 100 years or so.

There is some very interesting research coming out of the US on the effect
of lead bullets and shot on the food chain of areas where hunting takes
place. One wildlife agency there has banned lead bullets.
