We had one night at Coles Bay during our Tasmanian holiday in early March
last year so I didn't have a thorough look around. I did see my first
Yellow Wattlebird there since I began recording my observations and
couldn't believe how large it was.
I also saw a Whistling Kite and many other birds on our way to Coles Bay
and from Coles Bay to Triabunna including Bush Bronzewing and Kelp Gull,
but I don't have my notes with me.
There's a very good restaurant in Coles Bay - the fish of the day is
whatever they happen to catch!

While the topic of the King Penguin at Freycinet national park is
mentioned. My wife and I are holidaying near Freycinet from Feb 21 for
three days- here's hoping it is still there.
Would people by any chance have any tips for good birding nearby
especially of Tasmanian endemic species particularly for novice
birders? I've not been to Tassie since I started to take an active
interest in birding. We are staying at a place in Coles Bay, I think
it is, described as being "on the estuary".
thanks
