I heard a rumour earlier today that a mainland nesting colony of Fairy Terns near Point Peron (about 45 south of Perth) has been destroyed by beach sand excavation works conducted by the local council. Does any one know if this is true or have any more information that you would like to share with us? I was told that 25-30 pairs had started nesting there just before Christmas. As an ornithologist and former long-term resident of that area, I am outraged by this story if there is any truth to it.
