Last Thursday (22 Jan) I was at Tuross Heads and while checking out the
Little Tern nesting colony became aware that there were about 6 Fairy
Terns resting on the sand at the edge of the lagoon-side of the sand
spit. Managed to get some nice photos of a couple of them before a
gaggle of holidaying girls scared them off.
Based on info in NSW and Eurobodalla Annual Bird Reports, and the Birds
Australia Atlas, records of Fairy Terns are not that common on the NSW
South Coast. It's the first time I've seen them in NSW.
