Last year on a number of occasions I traversed the heath at Barren grounds
to visit research sites. I never flushed a Ground Parrot although -
judging by calls - I passed very close to some. My guess is they move
away through the heath if they can - which is currently dense at Barren
Grounds. With the line of "beaters" used in the surveys they'd find
this more difficult and may have to fly.

I did flush Ground Parrots twice when walking the trails to get to where
I had to cross the heath. So I'd guess disobeying the NPWS signs and
leaving the trails is counter-productive and walking the trails quietly
is the best strategy,

Andrew
