" I then spent from 05.00-06.30 crashing about in the undergrowth close to where the calls seemed to be coming from" Ground Parrots breed from September to January. That is why NPWS do not like people stepping off designated walking tracks and there are usually signs saying this. At Barren Grounds NR there is an officially organised count conducted once a year in August which is outside of the breeding time.
