I wasnt sure of the status of the Emus on the site, I'd heard different
things (read media reports a few years back indicating they were the
last remnants of a Cumberland Plains population) - although I believe
they are firmly established and breeding there so in that case would
qualify as a successful introduction? The defence site must have some
interesting birds given its size and habitat - does anyone know if the
site has been visited, surveyed etc?
I remember as a kid, perhaps late 1970s, there was an Emu resident for a
long time beside the Newcastle freeway north of Berowra - very likely
some kind of bizarre introduction given the surrounding habitat.
I dont know the Wheeny Creek canyon - is this accessible by a track or
are you talking serious canyoning?
