Hi birders,
Ruth and I are heading to Malaysia for four weeks over Christmas. The
purpose of the trip is R&R and birding, birding and more birding. We are
heading to Singapore on 22 December (arriving late) and will be there until
26 December. We intend to visit Sungei Buloh and possibly Bukhit Tima, Water
Catchment Forests and/or Pulau Ubin. From Singapore we head to KL by coach
(on 26 December). From KL we have accommodation booked at Kuala Selangor
(mangroves and mudflats, wetlands and fireflies!), The Gap and Fraser's
Hill, Cameron Highlands, Maxwell Hill, Georgetown (Penang) and Teman Negara.
>From there we head back to KL then fly over to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah,
Borneo. The current plan is to spend 3 days on Mount Kinabalu, 3 days in the
Danum Valley before heading back to Kota Kinabalu and onto Kuching, Sarawak.
>From Kuching we'll head to Bako for a couple of nights before flying home.
Does anyone have any suggestions or contacts for any of the locations I
mentioned? We are interested in hooking up with any local birders along the
way. Nothing beats local knowledge, and since we'll be pretty unfamiliar
with most of the birds, any assistance would be gratefully accepted!
Also, it is proving quite difficult to organise a tour climbing Mount
Kinabalu, is it recommended that we climb the mountain? Or can we do some
good birding without doing that? Unfortunately the same tour company
organises accommodation at Danum Valley (at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge), I
don't want to miss out on that.
Thanks in advance,
Paul Dodd
