Can't help with most of your itinerary, but I've been to Singapore a few times and made one trip across to Malaysia to the Panti forest where I got some shots an oriental dwarf kingfisher. The botanical gardens can be worth a quick look on a morning or evening walk, depending on what's flowering and the weather can be a good variety of sunbirds feeding there. If you find someone to take you across to Panti it would be worthwhile, it's probably an hour's drive across the causeway into Malaysia. Might be worth trying to find some asian birding forums and register and post a request. Here's one to try for a start:

You could also try contacting the bookshop in the botanical gardens, was run by a bird photographer who was quite helpful, not sure if he's still there. See this thread:
