Bird list database

Hi All,

I was wondering whether anyone knows of any databases specifically for 
recording bird sightings?  I found a couple of programs being sold over the web 
from the UK which look quite good but also quite expensive.  I may just build 
my own with MS Access but I'm interested in what others may be using.
