>From Desley Williams Mackay
Last week whilst attending the Baptist Church which is set up each Sunday under
a school building (don't have a hall yet) there was what I believe to be an
immature Pallid Cuckoo rarely seen in Mackay which was sitting on a chair.
There was red on both sides at the back of its mouth which was partly open,
assuming it could not shut it completely. At first I through it was blood but
one of the Deacons said "look at the back of its head, there is red there also;
it's a rubber band or the lid of a bottle." I could see a bit of red under
the feathers at the back of the head. I tried to catch it, but it flew out
and landed on a railing; tried to catch it again but it flew and landed on a
roof. I did not see it again.
Does anybody have any clues as to how this could have happened. If children
had done it I wonder how they would catch it because I could not catch it.
Perhaps it would break the plastic/rubber band or perhaps it could still eat
with its mouth partly open.
Regards Desley Williams
