good story-I don't think you need worry about being anthropomorphic.  I 
think it is just an example of animals doing what they do, which is care for 
each other(who knows perhaps more reliably than humans care for each other). 
I am sure many of us have seen a recently killed bird on the road with a 
member (or many members)of the same species standing by it.
