Chris is correct re multiple females.Once emerging the young have to regain their strength so may pop out of the nest at any time of the day. I have even seen a chick pull its head back into the mound when I came upon it. I went back a few hours later and it was gone. On other occasions I have visited a recently emerged chick over a period of a couple of hours and the chick was still there when I gave up and went onto other things.
