Hi,

I use the Garmin 60CS - I typically use it to record tracks (and
occasionally mark significant locations). I then use the tracks to add
location information to digital photos. I have had no problems with the unit
whatsoever. The one problem with any GPS is the cost of the maps (which can
be the same price as the unit itself!) I found a FREE map product called
Shonkymaps (funny name, but they are for real!)
http://shonkylogic.net/shonkymaps/ that gives you Australian topographic
maps to a very high level of detail.

>From what I can see the difference between the two models that you've
mentioned are that the Vista has an electronic compass and a barometric
altimeter whereas the Legend doesn't. The model I have (the 60CS) has both
these features, but to be honest I've never found a use for them - the
electronic compass is pretty ordinary anyway, and I prefer my little Silva
one anyway.

Take a look on eBay, I bought my unit from someone in America selling it as
a refurbished demo model. It was half the price I could buy it for here, and
that includes the shipping.

Hope this helps.

Hi Folks,

We are in the market for a hand held GPS unit. From what I hear, Garmin
seems to be the brand to get. We will be using it mostly to plot significant
native plants and weeds (which we plan to eradicate) on our bush property.
We're looking at 2 models, the Garmin eTrex Vista HCX and the Garmin eTrex
Legend HCx. Does anyone have some experience with these models? Any thoughts
(good or bad) will be most appreciated. Thoughts on other brands/models
welcome too.

Thanks in advance,

Dave and Marj
