So the net result of all this posting is that we have two groups of people 1. Those who won't go on a trip if the organiser gets to go free 2. Those who don;t mind if the organiser goes free so long as he/she has done a lot of work organising the trip. Surely it was obvious to begin with that some birding-aus people were going to fall into group one and others into group two as this is a matter of opinion, where fact can't obtrude to change minds. In the future wouldn't it be better to avoid these kind of debates and stick to ones where people can prove their assertions, or not?
