Here is a link to a photo I took of a Peregrine with a pigeon in talons. You can clearly see the pigeon has the neck broken. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x82/Kiska2/PeregrineFalconfeeding014a.jpg I didn't witness the initial strike of the Peregrine, but saw the bird with prey on the ground a few hundred meters away. Thankfully it flew closer as I was getting the camera ready!
