I haven't tried this yet, but the website certainly says that conversion TO
Garmin (the GPS I have) is possible FROM Google KML files.
To the best of my knowledge, Google Earth reads KML and also the exchange
format, GPX - but doesn't WRITE to GPX or any other useful format.

That's a very good (free) program for converting GPS track files, but
I'm not sure if there's any way to download them from Google Maps.
Google Earth might be able to do it.
