I understand the biggest issue at Cairns is actually bats and not birds.
Bat strikes are included in the 'birdstrike' tally.



Birds are generally a manageable problem for airports as their daily and
seasonal movements are fairly well known, but there is relatively little
known about the movements of bats. Bats are a worldwide problem for
airports, and it's something that has the pundits stumped for a
solution.
