Hi Gordon,

Gum Swamp is always worth a stop. I used to time my lunch breaks (no
matter what hour) to coincide with Gum Swamp when I used to travel
the Newell Hwy. regularly. It is always good for Freckled and Musk
Ducks and often Blue-billed Ducks. Check out the tall dead gums on
the far side of the swamp (at about 45 degrees from the hide) to see
if the White-bellied Sea-eagles are nesting. Take your mozzie
repellant. And enter the hide quietly, as ther may be still Welcome
Swallows nesting up under the ceiling.

Enjoy,

Carl Clifford

I am heading out to Parkes for a week with friends. It will be a family
holiday, but I hope to get out to the sewer treatment plant and have
a look
around.

Is there anything much there at this time of year, or have most birds flown
the coop, so to speak?

Also, are there any other good birding spots in the vicinity of
Parkes, and
is it worth travelling to Blue Gum Swamp at Forbes – will it have
much that
won’t be at Parkes STP?

Thanks in advance for all help!

Cheers

Gordon Cain
